About ...

The author, some time in the 1980s.
"This was the '80s, man, there were no helmets! It was a wild place."

For more years than I care to admit, I’ve made my crust from writing. While it’s a great gig, and has allowed me to see a lot of the world on someone else’s dime, being a keyboard-for-hire means I often don’t get to choose the topics I write about. Nor do I typically get to say what I really think.

This is my space to do that, writing on everything from Australian politics, to design, travel, science, international relations and anything else that piques my interest. And all of it with the typically forbidden opinion thrown in.

Currently based in Canberra, where I juggle writing work, half-finished personal essays, parenting, and puppy ownership. I'm infrequently on social media at Bluesky and Threads.

The site is put together with Panic’s Nova code editor using some half-remembered html/css and a lot of Googling. Which means if you’re a serious web designer, don’t look under the hood, it will give you an aneurism. Any image editing is done with Affinity Photo from Serif, which was a fine opponent to the bloated behemoth of Adobe’s Photoshop until it sold out to Canva.
